Conor McGraw scores 14 points to go over 1,000 career points in win over Guernsey Vikings
The weather didn’t stop the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School basketball team from traveling to Guernsey on Saturday to face the Vikings.
The Guernsey team has not been winning many games and the Miners kept it that way, winning 52-27.
Head coach Cliff Jones was happy with what he saw on several fronts.
“We played well considering it was just our third game in the last month,” Jones said.
He said the defensive effort was improving.
“I thought our defensive effort was much better than it has been,” Jones observed.
Jones said the scoring of the team was balanced.
“Shane McGraw was the leading scorer and rebounder with 21 points and 12 rebounds,” Jones said. “Conor McGraw had 14 points and he went over 1,000 points for his career in the game on Saturday.”
Jones was proud of his athlete for hitting the 1,000 point benchmark.
“It is a pretty big accomplishment to hit that milestone in just two and half seasons,” Jones said. “He is currently at 1001 points.”
He said senior Tylor Goodro also played well.
“Tylor worked hard and played well on both ends,” Jones said. “He had his best game of the season.”
Jones said Brendon Reeves is turning into the leader the coach has been waiting for all season.
“Brendon played well and he did a great job of communicating and is really stepping up as floor leader on that end,” Jones said. “Plus Brendon added six assists.”
Currently the Miners are 5-4 and 1-0 in the conference.
The next scheduled game is at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 in Dubois against the Rams.
