Lady Miners take win from larger Lady Outlaws JV team
The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners kept up their winning ways against the Rawlins JV Lady Outlaws on Jan. 8 in Rawlins. The Lady Miners came out on top 27-21.
“Our effort was much better the second half, and we finished strong,” HEM Head Basketball Coach Jackie Jones said.
She said the Lady Miners were tested by the size of the Rawlins JV team because the Lady Outlaws were a much larger team. The Lady Miners are a team with only one senior, Jessica Nelson, and no juniors.
“We were very outmatched with size, but our girls played tough defense,” Jones said. “Madison Campbell was a spark in that position and Taylar Scott continued her hustle up top to create some things for her team.”
Jones had praise for M. Campbell’s twin sister, Amy.
“Amy Campbell had another big night for the Lady Miners,” Jones said. “She finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds.”
Jones is not only pleased with the performances of her older players this season, she is seeing good things from her freshmen.
“Rainey Wilson and Charla Widdison both had a good game defensively,” Jones said.
She said both are coming into their own very quickly.
“I am really happy with this team as we go on,” Jones said.
The head coach of the HEM boys basketball team, Cliff Jones, said he admires how hard the girls play.
“They don’t give up,” C. Jones said.
The next scheduled game is at 1 p.m. on Jan. 19 against Guernsey.
