Speech team continues to improve at Cheyenne East Invite

Over the weekend, four members of the Saratoga High School speech and debate team attended the Cheyenne East Invite. While the meet is a novice/varsity meet for many Wyoming schools, a number of Colorado schools also attend as they near the end of their season. Despite the large amount of competition, talk jock Kaylyn Hunter advanced to semi-finals over the weekend.

“The positive here is that the girls are making great strides in memorization, which leads to better blocking and pacing throughout their piece,” said Johnny Mercer, head coach of the speech team. “Many of them are also working on a second piece to increase team competitiveness when we come back in January.”

The speech team gets a few weeks to work on their pieces as they head into the holiday break. When they return, the six-member team will travel up to Casper to participate in the Kelly Walsh Invite on Jan. 11 and 12.
