Saratoga boys wrangle two wins in Shoshoni

Panthers take Huskies, Longhorns, fall to Grizzlies at Wrangler Invite

The Saratoga Panthers left home once again to participate in the Shoshoni Wrangler Invite over the weekend where they faced the Burlington Huskies (70-61), the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies (51-73) and the Meeteetse Longhorns (65-28). The Panthers returned home 2-1 following their games against the two 1A and one 2A teams.

Saratoga vs. Burlington

At the end of the 2017/2018 season, the Huskies were State runner-ups, falling to the Kaycee Buckaroos. When the Panthers faced Burlington this weekend, they ended the game with a 9 point lead.

Sophomore Teegan Love scored 28 points against the Huskies and had 4 rebounds, followed by senior Sam Schneider with 13 points and 5 rebounds and senior Justin Jeffs with 11 points.

“We got a good win over Burlington, a team that we feel we have been close to beating the last few times we have played them and we finally got over that hump,” said Jason Williams, head coach of the Saratoga Panthers.

Rocky Mountain

The weekend’s second game saw Saratoga fall to the Grizzlies by 22 points. Last season, Rocky Mountain placed 3rd at the 2A State Tournament.

“The Rocky Mountain game was a great opportunity for us to grow,” Williams said. “It was hard fought and we learned about the importance of controlling our emotions in tough situations.”

Love scored 16 points against the Grizzlies and had 2 assists, followed by Seahorn with 12. Seahorn also had 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

Saratoga vs. Meeteetse

Meeteetse has not had a good start during the preseason tournaments following losses during their visit in the Carbon County Classic and additional losses at the Wrangler Invite. The Panthers saw their largest lead so far, 37 points, as they tore through the Longhorns.

Love scored 13 points against the Longhorns, followed by Schneider with 12, Menphis Smith with 10, Seahorn with 9 and Greg Swanson with 9.

“The Meeteetse game was a good way to end the tournament and everyone got to play and everyone scored,” said Williams.

The Saratoga Panthers will have played the Hanna, Elk Mountain and Medicine Bow Miners at 5 p.m. on Tuesday before the holiday break.
