Bazaar, parade, lights and more

Hanna Rec. Center plans community wide Christmas events

Thanksgiving is over and the Hanna Recreation Center is jumping into the Christmas holiday spirit as December begins.

Starting at 4 p.m and going until 7 p.m. on Dec. 1 the annual Christmas Bazaar will held. As in the past, there will be booths for attendees to purchase many types of gifts. There are hand crafted items, Christmas decorations and holiday culinary treats.

The Hanna Cemetery Board will be setting up a table of baked goods and sweet treats. All proceeds go to the Hanna Cemetery Board for the building of the covered shelter and upkeep of the cemetery.

The Christmas Bazaar is not the only event on Dec. 1.

Hanna Recreation Center Director, Vivian Gonzales said at 7 p.m. a Christmas parade will start at the Hanna Town Hall and finish at the Hanna Recreation Center.

"We encourage all of Hanna to decorate and light up your business or residence as the parade descends to the recreation center from Town Hall," Gonzales.

She said all floats that need to be entered into the parade should register at the Hanna Recreation Center by Nov. 29.

Gonzales said she hopes there will be a lot of lights on the route of the parade.

This is the first year a Christmas parade has been tried. Gonzales said a resident approached to her and asked what happened at Christmas time. After discussion and exchanging ideas, the Christmas parade and encouraging Hanna residents to light the path was born.

"The idea is to get as many people in the community to get involved in putting up lights and support us because we already have some floats with people singing on them," Gonzales said. "The fire department is going to be involved by bringing Santa Claus in."

Once everyone is back at the recreation center there will be a candlelight vigil in memory of loved ones who have passed on. The Hanna Cemetery Board will be providing two candles to light for $1. Gonzales said to contact the recreation center if a person wanted to participate with a candle in the observance.

She said after the candlelight vigil, the lighting of the Christmas tree at the recreation center will follow.

"Besides Santa Claus being here, there will be hot chocolate and cookies provided by the recreation center," Gonzales said. "It will be a great way to finish off our Christmas parade night."
