Lady Miners beat Lady Longhorns, Lady Chiefs
HEM vs Rock River
The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School Lady Miners volleyball team played Rock River High School Lady Longhorns on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. at HEM.
Last year the Lady Longhorns beat the Lady Miners and the crowd had many supporters for Rock River hoping to see a repeat.
The Lady Miners took control for the first two games beating the Lady Longhorns 25-16, 25-18 but the third game went to Rock River.
"The third game, Rock River sort of stunned us with their aggressiveness on the third set and we fell behind," Jackie Jones, head coach said. "Rock River is a good team and should never be counted out and they proved it the third set."
The Lady Longhorns had a good effort, but the Lady Miners won 25-17 in the fourth set.
"This was a good win not only for our confidence, but it is a conference game which makes it even more important."
She was happy with all the players and was especially glad to see Megan Hunter coming into her game.
"Megan is really producing when we need her," Jones said of the junior. She also was impressed with freshman Rainey Wilson.
"The freshman have had to go trial by fire since our team is still young with only one senior and one junior and Rainey has proved she is up for the task tonight," Jones said. "I am so proud of the team tonight."
HEM vs Wyoming Indian
The Lady Miners kept up their winning ways as they took on Wyoming Indian at 5 p.m. on Sept. 13 at HEM.
It was not easy for the Lady Miners against the Lady Chiefs. The first set HEM won 25-21. The second set was a true nail biter with the Lady Miners coming out on top 34-32
"The sets were close, and the second set was one to remember," Jones said. "Neither team was willing to give, and it came down to more hustle and us winning the set 34-32."
The loss of the second set didn't stop the Lady Chiefs from winning the third set 25-22. The Lady Miners came back to win the fourth set and walk away the winning team.
"It was very intense, and it showed the competitive nature of our girls," Jones said. "Wyoming Indian is a scrappy team and they never gave up."
Her players are jelling according to Jones.
"The evening was highlighted by 100 percent serving from freshman, Charla Widdison and a strong hitting night from Taylar Scott tallying 29 kills and Amy Campbell ending with 25," Jones said. "Madison Campbell had 57 setting assists on the evening."
The next scheduled game is at 5 p.m. on Sept. 20 against the Lady Panthers in Saratoga.
