VSO elects 2018-19 officers

Merlynn Hoopes was elected president of the Valley Service Organization (VSO) at the organizations first meeting of the 2018-19 club year Thursday, Sept. 13 held in the back room of the Hotel Wolf.

Other officers elected were Kassey Westring, vice president; Sue Jones, treasurer; and Carol Sherrod, secretary.

In other business, the members started planning for VSO’s upcoming projects including general election candidate forums in October, the Christmas Giving Tree, Winter Wonderland, Christmas decorating contest and more.

Project chairman Tina Francis discussed problems with the summer Golden Pitchfork award set up and it was decided to have only one winner named every summer instead of one a month because of the valley’s short growing season. The award honors exceptional efforts in home landscaping.

The group meets the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from September through May.

Anyone interested in joining VSO or just learning more about the organization, is welcome to attend any meeting, the new president said.
