Lady Panthers win in close sets against the Lady Longhorns

The Saratoga Lady Panthers continued their winning streak this weekend as they traveled to Rock River to face off against the Lady Longhorns. Following five close sets (25-21, 19-25, 16-25, 25-21, 15-8), the Lady Panthers defeated Rock River 3-2 to continue their season undefeated.

“I was very proud of how our team regained their composure during the match,” said Shayley Love, head coach of the Lady Panthers.

Senior Tiffany Bauer quite literally killed it against the Lady Longhorns on Saturday, contributing 11 of the 41 total kills that Saratoga had against Rock River. Following Bauer were juniors Makiya Johnson with nine kills, Taylor Bennett with eight kills and Aubrey Berger with seven kills.

The once struggling Lady Panthers performed phenomenally in other areas, as well. Saratoga proved during the game against the Lady Longhorns that they can dig deep to turn a game around. Sophomore Tasia Daley lead the team with 32 digs against Rock River followed by Berger with 24 and Bauer with 14. Bennett, additionally, had 13 digs and senior Mychaela Jackman had 12.

Out of the 108 digs that the Lady Panthers performed, only 37 resulted in an error putting them at two-thirds of their digs being successful.

“They did a great job rallying with each other to get the next two sets to win the game,” said Love. “I liked how they each contributed to the success of this game.”

Following the win in Rock River, the Lady Panthers are now 6-0 for the season. The Saratoga girls will have ventured down to Walden, Colo. on Tuesday, Sept. 11 to face off against the North Park Wildcats. The Saratoga Panther Den will then play host to the Cokeville Lady Panthers on Saturday at 10 a.m. and the Farson-Eden Lady Pronghorns at 2 p.m.
