Serving the Platte Valley since 1888

High Plains by the river

Despite the erratic weather that was present on Saturday, Riverside residents gathered at Rick Martin Memorial Park for the annual Riverside Party Day. On the enclosed stage loaned by the Town of Encampment, the bluegrass band High Plains Tradition strummed their guitars, banjos and other string instruments while people gathered and caught up with each other.

"This is my going away party," said Jane Hill jokingly, as the long time resident is moving soon.

The food, provided by Bear Trap Cafe and Bar, went quickly as people began to show up. Shannon Gambill, who was visiting the Valley with her son, Julian, was encouraged by Leroy Stephenson to take part in the event.

"I was at the brewfest (Steinley Cup) earlier today and, in my opinion, this is so much better," said Gambill.

As High Plains Tradition played for the crowd, Gambill and her son enjoyed the merry-go-round and slide. As time passed, the food disappeared and the music played on, clouds began to form over the small town of Riverside, but that did little to dampen the spirits of the residents.
