CCIJPB hears lagoon project complete, talks well system
The Carbon County Impact Joint Powers Board heard updates on the lagoon improvement projects, which was declared substantially complete in June, as well as from Kevin Boyce of the Wyoming Water Development Commission (WWDC). Boyce had with him Todd Hurd from Forsgren Associates, the company selected by the WWDC to consult on the study of the town’s well system.
Director of Public Works Department Jon Winter informed the joint powers board that, since declaring the lagoon improvement project substantially complete, they had been having some start-up issues with a few of the systems, namely the CO2 and bisulfide systems.
According to Winter, he had been in contact with Element Engineering and Water Technologies Group to running troubleshooting systems.
“I think it’s just a matter of getting these last few things figured out,” said Winter.
Boyce, representing the WWDC, stood before the joint powers board and introduced Hurd. Boyce also provided some background to the board about the history of the well system.
“In 2003, a $60,000 master plan was completed by PMPC. The significant recommendation out of that study was the siting of a well-field and recommending that the town abandon it’s diversion off the North Platte River. Of course, you know, that did happen,” said Boyce.
Boyce informed the board that the WWDC had chosen to work with Forsgren on this study because they had used the company with similar projects throughout the state and with similar water systems. Hurd informed the board that his company was eager to get started on the project and had already looked at some of the wells earlier that day.
“We are anxious to get to going. We spent most of the day with Jon (Winter) and Chuck (McVey),” said Hurd.
Hurd added they would rely heavily on Winter and McVey throughout the project for information and guidance.
In other business, the board held an election of their officers. It was decided to retain Don Price as Chairman, Craig Kopasz as Vice President and Russell Waldner as Treasurer.
With no other business to conduct, the board adjourned. The next meeting of the Carbon County Impact Joint Powers Board will be at 6 p.m. on Aug. 8 at the Saratoga Town Hall.
