HART discusses ways to clean up around the community garden possibly offering summer jobs
Summer is here and Hanna resident Rose Dabbs presided over the monthly Hanna Agricultural Resource Team (HART) meeting held at 5:30 p.m. on June 26 at the Hanna Market to discuss work needed to be done outside the fenced area of the Community Garden.
"I would like to talk about the upkeep of the outside of our garden," Dabbs said. "The thistles are growing taller and we need to figure something out because I don't think any one person should have to it."
Several ideas were floated to take care of the situation.
It was suggested to have a weekly day of clean up for individual members. Another idea was to hire students since summer jobs are not easy to come by in Hanna for that age group.
"It is a good idea because not only does it give jobs, it gets them involved in learning about gardens," Melissa Cox, HART member said.
Cox also volunteered to help move any excess debris that was around the fences.
Dabbs said there some kindling around that could given away to those who wanted it. Another concern Dabbs said was to possibly build a small platform for the 300 gallon water tank that would be easier to work around.
She said they have logs to build it.
Dabbs said the garden has a greenhouse material that only requires assembly since the holes had already been dug.
Cox said with supervision students could possibly help with that project.
The next scheduled meeting is at 5:30 p.m. on July 25 at the Hanna Market.
