Cooper promoted while at Fort Riley
Local Carbon County lass, Carly Cooper, daughter of Robert and Shelly Cooper of Medicine Bow, was promoted to the rank of Major in the United States Army.
Early in May of 2018 C. Cooper joined the ranks of Army field grade officers by being promoted to Major at Fort Riley, Kansas.
C. Cooper was born in Wyoming and grew up in Medicine Bow where her parents still reside.
She is a 2003 graduate of Hanna, Elk Mountain,Medicine Bow High School in Hanna. C. Cooper received an Associate of Science Degree from Sheridan College and a Bachelor of Science from University of Nevada Las Vegas.
She next attended Touro University Nevada where she completed a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. After graduating from Touro University Nevada, she was commissioned into the Army Medical Department Specialist Corps as a First Lieutenant.
During her first duty station at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, she was given the opportunity to work at one of the premier army healthcare sites, San Antonio Military Medical Center, specializing in poly-trauma rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury and behavioral health. During this time C. Cooper earned her Doctor of Science Degree from Baylor University in Waco.
While stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, C. Cooper completed a tour of duty in Afghanistan as an occupational therapist, managing a small behavioral health team, and concussion care center. Upon return, she functioned as the Combat Stress Control Detachment Occupational Therapist, Executive Officer and Commander.
C. Cooper is currently stationed at Irwin Army Community Hospital, Fort Riley, KS as the Chief of Occupational Therapy Clinic, Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic, and the Soldier Medical Readiness Processing station.
S. Cooper is elated with her daughter’s promotion and feels it is well deserved.
