Dorothy Miller was born on November 1, 1924 in Saratoga, Wyoming and passed away May 4, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona where she had been living with her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Herm Weinert of Apache Junction, Arizona.
While growing up in Saratoga, she began working at the age of 10 waiting tables for the local Lions Club and continued to do so on and off for about 30 years. When her father passed away during her sophomore year, she quit school and went to work at the Crows' saw mill for a top wage of 9 ½ cents per hour. Dorothy also waited tables at the A-Bar-A Guest Ranch and it was there she met Tom Mix, Bob and Deloris Hope and many other celebrities. While working at the Saratoga Inn she met Arthur Godfrey. Throughout Dorothy's life, she had worked at running errands, babysitting, baled hay, gas station, worked on ranches and cooked for Forest Service summer help. She also drove a regular school bus route as well as driving to various sporting events.
In 1945, Dorothy married Nestor Miller and together they raised 5 children: Jerry, Sherry, Mack, Pam and Dottie. Around 1961 they sold their home in Saratoga and bought the Ponderosa Cottage Camp in Medicine Bow National Forest, which had cabins, store and gas station. Then in 1968, they purchased the Ten Mile Inn Steakhouse and Bar, which in 1935 was also known as Ten Mile Saloon which played host to some of the big bands such as Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and even Louis Armstrong.
Dorothy participated in many sports including bowling, horse shoes (women's State Champion several times) and golf where she was known for her many costumes.
Dorothy kept busy at Desert Harbor, attending events at the clubhouse where she enjoyed dancing and playing her washboard with various bands. She enjoyed playing shuffleboard, Texas Hold'em and Bingo.
She was preceded in death by her husband Nestor and two children Jerry and Pamela.
