Hunter Ed class set

Class begins May 9 at Hanna Senior Center

From May 29 to June 2, Wyoming Game and Fish (WGFD) will have it's seventh annual hunter education at the Hanna Senior Center.

"We bounced around having the classes between Elk Mountain and Hanna until we found Hanna seems like the more central location for the communities of Medicine Bow, Elk Mountain and Hanna.," Ryan Kenneda, Senior Game Warden for Elk Mountain said. "The Hanna Senior Center is a great place for our classes too."

The major purpose of Hunter Education (HE) programs is the prevention of hunting and firearm related accidents, but there is becoming more and more emphasis on improving knowledge about the traditions and heritage of hunting. The program does stress the importance to novice hunters to develop a sense of ethics and responsibility. Both the first time and veteran hunter are encouraged to become involved in all matters related to hunting, wildlife, and the environment. Responsible, ethical behavior by hunters and personal involvement in the community will be essential to the future of wildlife and the survival of hunting.

In Wyoming, there are over 350 volunteer instructors, training over 5,000 HE graduates each year. These volunteers donate their time, ability, and effort to share their knowledge and experience with HE students.

The hours for the classes will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 29-31. On June 1-2, the times will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring writing instruments and water bottles to class. Children under 12 must be accompanied by by parent or guardian. All classes must be attended to the hunter education certificate. For more information contact 307-379-2337.
