Encampment takes 3 of 4 for weekend

It was standing room only at Tiger Nation on Saturday as the Encampment Tigers hosted Valley rivals the Saratoga Panthers. Following their victory over the Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners on Friday, the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Panthers with a nearly 40 point lead. While the Tigers were able to take care of the Miners, the Panthers left Encampment with a lead of a single point.

Lady Miners

"We played to our strengths in this game and finally came out and played a complete game from start to finish," said Clint Bromley, head coach of the Encampment Lady Tigers.

Paige Powell led the Lady Tigers in scoring against the Lady Miners with 22 points. Powell also had 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. The Encampment junior also blocked 5 shots by the Lady Miners.

Noelle Peterson scored 15 points against HEM and Hailey Barkhurst scored 14 points. Barkhurst also had 3 assists and 5 steals.

The final score against the HEM Lady Miners was 59-28.

Lady Tigers vs.

Lady Panthers

The Lady Tigers hosted Saratoga on Saturday and had trouble finding their footing in the first quarter. The Lady Panthers scored 2 points in the opening seconds and managed to keep Encampment from scoring in the first four minutes. Once the Lady Tigers got moving though, they were difficult to stop.

By halftime, the Lady Tigers led the Lady Panthers 33-4.

"Other than the first four minutes of the game I thought this was the best that we have played all year, and that is encouraging as we come down to the final run through the conference," said Bromley.

Peterson led the Lady Tigers in scoring against the Lady Panthers with 21 points, followed by Powell with 12 points and Barkhurst with 10 points.

"Again our big three were able to dominate the paint and all scored in the double figures which lead to the win," added Bromley.

Bromley was also happy with the Lady Tiger's free-throws as they made 9 of 11.

"I am pleased to see that portion of our game coming together," he said.

After this weekend, the Lady Tigers are 4-1 for conference and 13-1 for the season.

Tigers vs. Miners

The Encampment Tigers dominated the court at HEM on Friday, ending the game with a score of 71-47.

Tigers vs. Panthers

After defeating the Miners, Encampment hosted the Panthers on Saturday. Tiger Nation became standing room only as both Panther and Tiger fans filled the stands.

The Tigers stayed in step with the Panthers through the entire game, staying tied for much of the second half and never trailing more than 7 points.

At the end of the first quarter, Saratoga and Encampment were tied 17-17 as the Tigers would answer each basket by the Panthers with one of their own.

Entering the second half, the Tigers were behind Saratoga 31-38 and would continue to try and close the gap.

With 30 seconds left in the final quarter, Encampment was behind Saratoga by a single point. Jake Johnston, head coach of the Encampment Tigers, would call three time-outs in the half minute that remained to regroup his team.

The goal, it seemed, in the remaining seconds was less of scoring against the Panthers and more of keeping Saratoga from scoring as Johnston directed several Encampment players to guard Panther Gage Bartlett.

The final score was 64-65. After this weekend, the Encampment Tigers are 2-3 for conference and 10-4 for the season.

The Encampment Tigers and Lady Tigers will take to the road this weekend as they travel to Farson on Friday and Cokeville on Saturday.

Encampment will play against the Farson-Eden Pronghorn at 4 p.m. on Feb. 2 and the Cokeville Panthers at noon on Feb. 3.
