The SMHS cross country team met Friday in Green River for the Green River Invite.
The first meet of the year allowed the Panthers to get started on the season after months of summer vacation and the off-season.
Senior Ashlynn Johnston, the only high school girl to compete, took third place in the 5-kilometer run, setting a time of 23:20 for the course.
The team fielded six high school boys for the 5-kilometer at the Green River Invite. Sophomore Jarom Herring finished eighth, with a time of 19:55. Gavin Bartlett took 11th place with a time of 20:08. Aaron Detterer, at 21:02 took 15th place in Green River.
Standing out on the junior high roster were boys Grant Bartlett and Grady Bartlett who took and first and second place in the 1.75 mile run with a time of 11:09 for Grant Bartlett, followed six seconds later by Grady Bartlett with a time of 11:15.
Makenna King rounded out the junior high performance with her eighth place finish in the 1.75 mile with a time of 14 minutes even.
The SMHS Cross Country team’s next meet will be the Rawlins Invitation in Rawlins on Friday.
