The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced it will be doing a chip seal project on WY-130 (First Street in Saratoga) that will cause delays to motorists passing through town.
The project is scheduled to begin July 31 and will continue until approximately Aug. 5, according to WYDOT. The project is expected to affect Saratoga for about three days, according to a WYDOT employee who briefed town council members at the town council meeting Tuesday.
Work in town is expected to be completed in about three days, weather permitting, a representative of the company performing the work told the town council.
Beginning July 31, there will be no parallel parking on WY-130/First Street, and most street crossings will be closed.
Drivers will be able to cross WY-130/First Street at Rochester Avenue, Bridge Avenue, Elm Avenue and Constitution Avenue.
There will also be access to any business along the route of the project, WYDOT said.
While work is ongoing, pilot cars will escort traffic through town, the agency said.
Chip sealing requires several steps, including cleaning of the streets, applying asphalt and fine chips of aggregate. According to WYDOT, cars can be allowed on the surface as the chip seal sets, but at reduced speeds.
The goal was to have the work completed before the weekend began, council members were told. By the weekend, it is hoped the crews will be continuing work between Saratoga and Riverside and Encampment.
The WY-130/First Street bridge will not be resurfaced, according to WYDOT.
