King Coal Days celebration resumes in Hanna after year hiatus
King Coal Days didn’t happen last year, but Friday at 5 p.m., registration for weekend events at the Hanna Parks and Recreation Center will begin this year’s festivities.
Friday evening features a DJ, a community barbecue, Texas Hold-em poker and a co-ed baseball game.
Saturday, at 6 a.m., a 5k Color Dash Run/Walk followed by pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. The King Coal Days parade starts 9:30 a.m. at Hanna Town Hall and will finish at the Recreation Center. There will be a volleyball tournament, 3 on 3 basketball tourney, watermelon and pie eating contests, Dutch oven cook-off and bake-off. There will be kids rides, inflatables, auctions and raffles throughout the day. From 8 p.m. to midnight a street dance, featuring “Somethin 2 Do” of Saratoga, will be held. The planned fireworks for Saturday have been canceled due to dry, hot conditions.
Sunday morning a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. starts the day leading into a men’s horseshoe tournament, co-ed horseshoes, a cribbage tournament and at noon, Mud Drags will begin.
“There will be a lot of exciting things to do for all ages. We will be providing transportation for the elderly and disabled so the whole community can come and enjoy,” said Tina May, receptionist at the Hanna Recreation Center. “It is going to be a great time.”
