A party fit for a King

The Hanna Town Council met Tuesday to discuss the upcoming events for King Coal Days June 21-23. Before the meeting, there was a public hearing to discuss an open container permit requested by the Hanna Recreation Center for the King Coal Days celebration.

There were no comments from the public and the meeting started immediately after.

Marshal Jeff Neimark said he used the new breathalyzer equipment recently aquired by the town. The town council approved a resolution supporting an application to the U.S. Department of Justice for a Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) grant. The grant allows the reimbursement of wages and costs of $125,000 for a full-time Deputy to be employed, by the Hanna Marshals Office. The Department of Justice will notify the Hanna Marshal’s Office in September whether the grant is approved.

Vivian Gonzales, Parks and Recreation Director, said the roof at the Hanna Recreation Center was still under repair and the pool was becoming busy enough to warrant two lifeguards during evening hours. The revised Hanna Recreation Center policy and procedure manual was approved.

Gonzales went over the activities of King Coal Days and introduced Chuck Scheerschmidt, Director of Wyoming Mud Racing. He will also carry the insurance for Mud Racing and fireworks because the insurance company Gonzales contacted would not insure either event.

The council approved Gladys Buswell, a volunteer for King Coal Days, to operate the shuttle bus during King Coal Festivities.

An open containers permit for King Coal Days, which will be confined to the Hanna Recreation Center area, was approved.

The council approved a resolution authorizing the town of Hanna to discharge fireworks on July 22, 2017 for the King Coal Days festivities.

Editor’s Note: Due to dry weather and fire restrictions, the fireworks have recently been canceled.

Jon Nelson, founder of North Fork Engineering, introduced his company’s services to the town for future consideration.

The council approved Task Order 17078 for the 2017 Elmo and Old Town Water Distribution Replacements.

Marcia Beals, the housing board director, told the council two units were currently being renovated.

The next scheduled meeting of the Hanna Town Council is 6 p.m., Aug. 8, at the Hanna Town Hall.
