Platte Valley Helping Hands, (PVHH) a Wyoming nonprofit corporation, recently held their annual board reorganization meeting, acknowledging the retirements of Jack Riddick and Leslie Johnson, and welcoming Lynda Healey and Vickie Stolns as new board members.
The following officers were re-elected for one year terms: Marilyn Verplancke, President; Deborah D’Amico, Treasurer; and Merlynn Hoopes, Equipment Coordinator.
Elected to new terms were Gertrude Herold, vice president and Rev. Susan Dyer, secretary. Verplancke, Hoopes, and Herold have served as board members since 1995 when PVHH was created.
The board, in cooperation with several other PVHH volunteers, provide meals, do light housekeeping, make phone calls, help with correspondence and run errands in an effort to help those in the Valley who are suffering with a serious illness or recovering from surgery. PVHH has an excellent assortment of used medical equipment to loan out free of charge. The seven board members will provide and coordinate services needed, utilizing their volunteers. Platte Valley Helping Hands is governed by a seven–member volunteer board and relies on donations to cover insurance and equipment expenses.
One of the most popular services provided by PVHH has been their annual free community Thanksgiving Dinner for the Platte Valley, with food donated and cooked by PVHH volunteers. This was started to provide the sick with a hot home cooked meal for the holiday and has now grown to include anyone who wants to attend.
