Encampment council adds harmony to park with outdoor musical instruments

A Frisbee disc golf tournament and the purchase of four musical instruments for a downtown park got approval from the Encampment Town Council at their meeting April 13.

The Town recently had purchased an outdoor musical instrument from Freenotes Harmony Park of Durango, Colorado for the park near town hall. The first instrument purchased was “the Swirl.” Due to the popularity of this interactive amusement, four more instruments are to be purchased for $12,907.60.

Mayor Greg Salisbury said, “I have heard good things about (the instruments).”

The four town owned lots near the center of Encampment are planned as a unique park that will soon feature the following instruments; The Swirl; The Manta Ray; Lily Pad; Tuned Drums and Wee Notes (see photos above).

Josh Craig and Shannon Fagan discused the Frisbee Disc Golf Tournament slated for June 23-24. Fagan said the tournament is named “The Tale of Two Cities” because Encampment’s nine hole disc course will be used in conjunction with Riverside’s nine hole disc course. Friday, June 23 is appreciation day for the community support of allowing the tournament. Saturday, June 24 will be the day of the tournament. Awards will be given at the Bear Trap and a band will follow the ceremony. Encampment will sponsor a hole with a flag on the course of Riverside.

Josh Saier and Joe Morrison from the Sierra Madre Muzzleloaders left posters with information on the upcoming Mountain Man Rendezvous.

The community fishing pond project draft design is almost ready to be sent off to Army Corps of Engineers and Wyoming Fish and Game for permits. The council voted to pay for the permits.

The first reading of the 2017/2018 budget reading was approved although town clerk Doreen Harvey said more information on preliminary numbers is still needed.

Harvey said a 10-12 percent decrease in revenue with some costs rising is anticipated, but the town is in good shape financially.

The council approved the following: The lease renewal for Doggett Greenhouse; year end purchase requests for the Public Works department; Encampment Riverside Lions Club annual service contracts; Police Chief Grayling Wachsmuth travel to the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs conference in Casper; advertising for seasonal employees; keeping maintenance software agreements; and tires for a 2002 Dodge.

The request to have Encampment Tiger championships names added to the tipi burner (a tipi-shaped waste burning unit formerly used to dispose of scrap at the Hammer mill) is forthcoming but the council wants to see the design before committing.

The next meeting of the Encampment Town Council will be at 7 p.m. May 11 at the town hall.
