Skijoring set for March 3-5

Skijoring, a new event blending equestrian riding with skiing and which is replacing chariot races in the Valley for the first time this winter, will be held March 3-5, the weekend that the chariot races would have been held.

The event sponsores, the Lion’s and Jaycees, hope the event will draw crowds. According to Will Faust of the Lion’s Club, the racing may be different from previous years, but the event will retain much of the character of the chariot races.

Sign up for participants will be held March 3 at the Wolf Hotel, Faust said. Racing, a Calcutta and a party will be held Saturday into the evening. Racing will continue Sunday, Faust said.

Saturday evening’s entertainment will be Chancey Williams & the Younger Brothers Band, Faust said. A popular Wyoming-based band, Chancey Williams & the Younger Brothers Band last visited the Valley over the summer where they held a concert at the Platte Valley Community Center.

Organizers have set up a webpage, http://www.saratogaskijoring.com where visitors can get more information about the event, and where participants can sign up.

The website does not require payment of registration fees at the time of signup, Faust said, adding that registration fees, waivers and other participant registration activities will be completed at the Wolf Hotel Friday.
