Basketball boys head into break 4-4, girls 5-2

The Encampment High School boys' and girls' basketball teams finished off the final games of December and 2016 last week, ending the week with the boys having a record of 4-4 and the girls slightly better poised at 5-2.
Tuesday, the Tigers hosted North Park High School from Walden, Colo., in the Tiger Den in Encampment. The Lady Tigers parlayed their home court advantage into a resounding defeat of the North Park Lady Cats by a 23-point margin, winning 60-37. The Encampment boys also dealt a loss to the visitors from the Centennial State, but they only won by a much squeakier margin of 57-53.
The Tigers managed to defeat the weather this weekend and made it Northeast to Lingle for the Lingle-Ft. Laramie Invitational. Unfortunately, the weather did prevent four teams scheduled to compete at the invite from making it. Rock River, Kaycee, Guernsey-Sunrise and Hulett all declined to make the journey to Lingle, citing lousy weather and poor road conditions.
For the boys and the girls of the southern end of Good Times Valley, the weekend was chock full of close games.
The Boys team took on three opponents over the course of the weekend, facing off against St. Stephens and Southwest Friday, and Lingle Saturday. The boys defeated St. Stephens Friday by a score of 60-57. Later that day, the boys faced off against Southwest, where they lost by a 1-point margin with a final score of 44-43 in favor of Southwest. Saturday, the boys team matched up against Lingle-Ft. Laramie on that team's home turf. Encampment did lose, but by a respectable margin of 47-40.
In Lingle Friday, the Lady Tigers met up on the court with Southwest, whom the South Valley Girls defeated by a mere two points, with a final score of 41-39. Later that day, the girls were dealt their first loss of the nascent season when the Eagles of St. Stephens beat the Lady Tigers 67-63. In their final game of the weekend-and the year-the girls were on the losing end of a 50-40 final score against hosting Lingle-Ft. Laramie.
The Encampment High School Tigers will again take the hardwood at 4 p.m., Jan. 3, 2017 at Encampment High School Gym.
