Encampment basketball off to good start

Tigers at 2-1, Lady Tigers 3-0 after Carbon County Classic

The Carbon County Classic was held over the weekend in Hanna and Encampment, giving the Tigers a good start to their 2016-2017 season.

Encampment's men finished the inaugural event of the basketball season with a 2-1 record, and the Lady Tigers ended the two-day, two town event with a solid 3-0 win loss record.

Friday in Hanna, the boys from Encampment took on Laramie's sophomore team and won the game 74-46. On Friday, the Encampment girls also took on Laramie, defeating the ladies from Laramie handily, by a score of 63-14.

The next day, the action of the Carbon County Classic moved south down the valley into the gyms at Encampment K-12 school, where 12 games were held over the course of the day, with teams from seven schools across the state taking part.

In the first game of the day, the Encampment boys took on Dubois, where the Tigers defeated Dubois 45-43.

An hour later, the girls were busy in the school's other gym taking on the girls from Dubois. The Lady Tigers defeated Dubois by a decisive margin of 62-42 on home hardwood.

Later that afternoon at 3 p.m., the Encampment boys took on Cheyenne South, who delivered the only loss of the inaugural weekend to an Encampment team. The boys lost 69-53 against a big team, but held the score to a respectable margin.

The final matchup of the Carbon County Classic at 4:30 Saturday had the Encampment girls taking on the crew from Hayden, Colorado. The Lady Tigers beat the ladies from The Centennial State 48-30.

The Tigers next games will be Tuesday, Dec. 13, at Encampment, then the teams travel to Lingle Dec. 16-17 for the Dogger Classic to take on four teams. The teams will then enjoy a 17-day break over the holidays, and will swing into action again Jan. 3 against Laramie.
