The Giving Tree, a project to help provide Christmas for valley children who otherwise might not have much of a holiday, will be held again this year and the the deadline for families to return 2016 application forms for their child to be included is Thursday, Nov. 17.
Kassey Westring, Valley Service Organization (VSO) coordinator for the 2016 Platte Valley Giving Tree project, said forms were distributed to area families through Saratoga and Encampment schools, preschools and Head Start.
Completed forms may be mailed to Westring at P. O. Box 702, Saratoga, WY 82331, or taken to school offices.
As before, the Giving Tree will be located at Town & Country Realty in Saratoga, Westring said.
VSO has organized this project for several years, Westring said. Tags with the profiles of the children will be placed on the tree and be available to the public on Monday, Nov. 21.
The tags will have information on the age of each child, his or her size, what items the child needs, what he or she wants, and his or her interests and favorite colors. There will be nothing on the tags to indicate who the child is and all information received will be kept in strictest confidence and destroyed after the gifts are distributed.
Those wishing to provide gifts for the children can pick the tags from the tree starting on Nov. 21. Givers have until Thursday, Dec. 9, to return the gifts, unwrapped, to Town & Country Realty. The gifts will be distributed to the parents on Dec. 14 at The Hub in downtown Saratoga.
Westring said this year, residents of Valley Care Center will also have tags on the tree.
Several valley organizations and churches are also planning to participate in the Giving Tree project by “adopting” families.
