A group of students from Saratoga High School’s (SHS) Future Business Leaders (FBLA) chapter and the National Honors Society (NHS) will be holding a food drive on Halloween to benefit the Saratoga Food Bank.
Monday, 6:30-8:30 p.m., when many will be out trick-or-treating, members of the FBLA and NHS will be dressed in business attire visiting homes around town to ask for canned or other non-perishable foods to donate to the food bank, SHS Senior Alicia Zaragoza, one of the students involved, said.
“I just really like the concept behind it,” Zaragoza said. “Rather than asking for candy, doing it for something other than ourselves.”
Zaragoza said that about 10 students would be involved in the food drive. The students will break into teams and try to visit as many homes in town as possible to collect donations.
Anyone who wants to donate food but will not be home when the students plan to visit homes can leave the food out and the students will collect it, Zaragoza said.
If someone wants to donate, but the students don’t make it to their home during the drive, they can call SHS and the students will come pick up the donation, Zaragoza said.
“It’s a good time to go out because everyone is already out and so giving to the community, and we’re just asking for donations,” Zaragoza said. “Thanksgiving is coming up and it’s a great time to give back to the community.”
