Marilyn, 89, of Saratoga, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 at the Afton Care Center in Afton, Iowa. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Marilyn Louise Rummel was born October 29, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minn .; a daughter to Helen Louise (Forney) and Clayton Arnold Guenther. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1945 and later from the University of Iowa in 1949, graduating Summa Cum Laude. While at Iowa she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and the Scottish Highlanders.
On April 26, 1947, Marilyn was united in marriage to Floyd Albert Rummel, Jr. in Iowa City. After Floyd's graduation from law school at the University of Iowa they settled in Britt, Iowa where they lived for many years.
In the late 60's they moved to Rawlins, and lived there for several years until moving to Saratoga. While raising their family Marilyn volunteered in the community as well as helping Floyd with his business interests. In Rawlins and in Saratoga Marilyn continued volunteering, including serving on the Carbon County Library Board and was active in the Daughters of the Nile Chapter. She and Floyd traveled extensively. They also enjoyed spending time outdoors, fly fishing, bird hunting and golfing. Marilyn was also an avid bridge player.
Floyd and Marilyn were longtime supporters of the University of Iowa and Black Hills State University. Marilyn enjoyed sports and was a life-long fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Gerharz of Creston, Iowa; a son Floyd A. Rummel, III (Luanne) of Lead, S.D .; five grandchildren, Jennifer Gerharz of Coralville, Iowa, Floyd Rummel, IV (Megan) of Madison, S.D .; Jessica Scales (Isaiah) of Los Angeles, Calif.,, Josh Rummel (Gina) of Larchwood, Iowa and Tony Gerharz of Billings, MT; five great-grandchildren; a brother William Guenther (Verna) of Laramie; a niece, Cynthia Suarez of Taylors, S.C., and Ardell Keene of Tucson, Ariz.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Floyd Rummel, Jr., son-in-law A. Burke Gerharz, brother-in-law James Rummel and sister-in-law Emogene Grandstaff.
