Following an anonymous email threat, Carbon County School District #2 placed all schools in the district on lockout status.
Jim Copeland, CCSD #2 superintendent of schools, said that school will be dismissed on time, buses will run on schedule and parents will be allowed to pick up their children as usual. After school athletics and activities will not be interrupted, Copeland said.
Copeland said the district received an alert from the Wyoming Department of Homeland Security advising them of an anonymous threat made by email. The anonymous email said “Wyoming was being turned to dust” and then went on to issue threats against a large number of public buildings in the state. The threat was signed “Archangel Michael,” according to Copeland.
The school buildings were placed on lockout out of caution, Copeland said. Law Enforcement officers had also been sent to patrol school buildings.
The lockout means that all external doors of school buildings are locked, and no unnecessary traffic in or out of the school is being permitted.
According to an alert by the Carbon County Sheriff’s Department, there is no credible threat to Carbon County. The Sheriff’s department also said that similar threats were received in other states. State and federal law enforcement are investigating, the Sheriff’s department said. .
