Richard Louis Sharp

Bluefield, WV – Richard Louis Sharp, 95 passed away August 16, 2016 at his home in Bluefield, WV. Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on April 25, 1921, he was the only child of Seymour S. Sharp and Mary E. Hysell Sharp. He grew up in Saratoga, Wyoming, valedictorian of his high school class, attended University of Wyoming and University of Colorado in Boulder obtaining a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a veteran of World War II, U.S. Army Air Corps. His 30-year career was spent in Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico as a bridge design engineer for U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highways Administration. After retiring and moving to Bluefield in 1987, he was adjunct faculty at Bluefield State College, teaching engineering technology.

His longtime interest was genealogy and he had a creative retirement group in genealogy at Bluefield State College.

He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Civitans, NACFE and several professional organizations.

He loved all things Western, old movies, cowboys and Indians, Peanuts cartoons and his dog Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Mary A. Sharp.

Those left to cherish his memory are his second wife of 29 years, Pepper Haynes Sharp, two step-sons; Bill Youse and wife Patti of Charleston, WV, Carl Youse and step-daughter; Karen Stowell of Castle Rock, Colorado and 2 step grandchildren Lindsay and Tyler Stowell of Castle Rock, Colorado and a close first cousin Janet Potter of Salt Lake City, Uta., Cremation has taken place and there will be no service or visitation locally. A service and burial will take place at a later day in Denver where he will be with family.
