Talent level deserves audience

Pat and I attended the Michael Martin Murphy concert last night. It was outstanding and was another example of the quality of entertainment that regularly graces the stage at the PVCC. We were once again, however, disappointed by the number of empty seats. Over the past 50 plus years we have lived in cities ranging in size from Saratoga to Houston. In each city we have tried to take advantage of the performing arts opportunities that they offer. We have also had the chance to attend concerts and musical theater in cities such as New York, London and Las Vegas. None of these provide a better venue than the one at our own PVCC. It is by far the most comfortable, has great acoustics, and is small enough that there is literally not a bad seat in the house. Its stage is regularly graced by top flight entertainers and we, unfortunately, are too regularly disappointed by the size of the crowd in attendance, especially given that you would routinely pay much higher prices to see the same acts in other cities or venues. Entertainers perform for a reason. They like to have audiences that enjoy their talent and we are concerned that Saratoga is getting a reputation among those touring performers of being a great venue with little community support. If this reputation grows it will become more and more difficult to continue to attract the level of talent we have historically been able to attract.

On July 12th there is an opportunity to see a group of remarkable performers in “Under the Streetlamp”. It is fully sponsored by Brush Creek and 100% of all ticket proceeds go to the Valley charity of your choice. That in itself is remarkable. These are Broadway entertainers who have performed in “Jersey Boys”, one of the hottest and most popular shows of recent years. We already have our tickets and are eagerly looking forward to another great evening of high quality entertainment at the PVCC. Our hope is that there is not an empty seat in the house. It will help assure that we continue to have this type of high quality entertainment to enjoy without having to leave Saratoga in the future.
