All graduating seniors in Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD#2), including home schooled seniors, can now apply for the Valley Service organization (VSO) $500.00 Youth Citizenship Award. Application forms have been distributed to the counselors at all CCSD#2 high schools, according to Carol Beach, VSO chairman of the award project.
Application deadline is April 15. Completed forms should be mailed to Valley Service Organization, P.O. Box 1601, Saratoga, WY 82331.
Applications need to include a letter of reference detailing accomplishments the student has demonstrated in school and/or in the community, the student’s ability to achieve personal goals, and personal characteristics that make him or her unique. It should also include contact information for the reference.
The students will also be asked to answer questions concerning school and community activities, plans and goals after high school, and the student’s definition of citizenship and how to exemplify it.
Beach went on to say that the Youth Citizenship Award is not a scholarship, but rather is just what it says it is, an award recognizing and encouraging continued good citizenship.
