In a bid to lessen travel times for their far-flung troops, Cub and Boy Scout leaders in Carbon County have decided to begin sharing activities and functions with troops in Albany and Jackson Counties in Colorado.
In Boy Scout parlance, these troops are collectively referred to as the “Long Peaks Council.” Before this switch, Saratoga Scouts had been part of the “Trapper Trails Council,” which stretches across southern Idaho, northern Utah and western Wyoming.
“We’re at the edge of both districts, so we’re a long way away from a lot of big activities” like camporees and Klondike events which feature multiple troops said Leah Koehn, Scoutmaster for Troop #153.
“We’re kind of sad to leave Trapper Trails but think there will be some new opportunities in Long Peaks Council,” Koehn continued.
“It’s too early to tell how it will all work out” though, she allowed.
If things work out, area boys will be spending a little more time earning merit badges and singing campfire songs this summer, and a little less watching mile markers pass by.
