Despite a fourth quarter rally attempt and solid defense through three quarters of play, the Saratoga Lady Panthers came up short against the Burns Broncs, in Burns Tuesday, 29-27.
The game was a “win-and-in” situation for both teams as the winner would advance to the Regional tournament in Cheyenne.
Burns overwhelmed the Lady Panthers in the first quarter of play with 14 points. Saratoga was able to respond with six points of their own.
In the second quarter, defense was the name of the game for both teams. Saratoga was able to tack on 4 points to their total. Burns was only able to get two. At the half Burns had a six-point lead, 16-10.
The third quarter was a close one as neither team could gain a significant advantage. Saratoga scored five points but gave up six to Burns. This allowed Burns to extend their lead 22-15.
In the final quarter of play, the Lady Panthers dominated the court. Their defense continued to play strong, holding Burns to only seven points.
Offensively, the girls came alive as they put up 12 points. Despite the last quarter rally attempt, Saratoga could not overcome the Lady Broncs. As the final buzzer sounded on the game and the season, the scoreboard was in favor of Burns.
Meredith Lincoln led the Saratoga scoring effort with 10 points. Lincoln had 1 offensive rebound and 8 on the defensive side.
Shaelee Hamann scored 6 points in the contest. Hamann had 2 offensive rebounds and 4 defensive.
Katie Loose had 5 points, 2 offensive rebounds, and 6 defensive rebounds. Mychaela Jackman had 2 points and 1 defensive rebound. Haley Soles scored 2 points and had 1 offensive rebound and 2 defensive. Cruz Escobedo had 2 points and 4 defensive rebounds.
