Lady Tigers split weekend

Encampment girls beat Rock River Friday, drop one in Baggs Saturday

The Encampment Lady Tigers (2-3, 13-4) kept the Rock River Lady Longhorns at bay for the first quarter only allowing the Longhorns to score 2 points to their 15 in the quarter Thursday night.

During the second quarter the Tigers outpaced the Longhorns and ended the half 24-8. McKenzie Powell scored 6 of her 9 points in the quarter.

The Encampment Tigers went into the third quarter just as hot with the Longhorns trying their best to keep up. Even though the Longhorns outscored the Lady Tigers in the third quarter by 1 point, the score was still lopsided at 34-15.

Konnar Knotwell got her licks in by scoring the final 2 points in the third quarter.

The Lady Longhorns tried to step up the defense against the Lady Tigers, but to no avail. The Tigers scored 10 more points in the fourth quarter while the Lady Longhorns only managed to put 4 on the board.

Despite fouls from the Longhorns early in the fourth quarter, Hailey Barkhurst managed to sink 2, then make 2 from the line.

Her sister, Alyssa, followed up with 2 points to answer a 2-pointer from the Longhorns.

In the final minutes, Cheyenne Jordan had a breakaway and was blocked on the layup. Fortunately, Paige Powell picked up the rebound and made the final score. The game ended 47-21.

Friday, the Lady Tigers traveled to Baggs to play the No. 1-seeded Little Snake River Valley.

The Rattlers put up strong defensive play as the Lady Tigers fell 41-28.

The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by Paige Powell and Alyssa Barkhust with 9 each. Noelle Peterson scored 4, Kenzie Powell, Micalah Pantle and Cassidy Little each had 2 in the loss.

The No. 3-seeded Lady Tigers will have an uphill battle against the No. 2-seeded Dubois Lady Rams Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. at the 1A West Regionals in Lander.
