Ashlynn Johnson, of Encampment, won the Junior Division at the state Make it with Wool (MIWW) contest Nov. 31, 2015, modeling a gray fit-and-flare coat with machine embroidery and a magenta/gray plaid vest and skirt. She traveled to Scottsdale, Ariz., to compete in the national MIWW contest Jan. 28-31. Winners were announced at the banquet and fashion show held on Saturday evening. Johnson was announced as being in the top ten junior contestants. She also received the "Junior Contestants Choice Award," new this year, where the contestants vote for their favorite senior and junior entry.
Contestants in the MIWW competition construct/knit/crochet and model their own outfits, which must be made from at least 60% wool fabric/yarn. District competitions are held throughout Wyoming during October and November. District winners participate in the State Competition which is usually held the last weekend of November. Other categories include the Pre-teen Division, Made or Others and Wearable Apparel. Wyoming also sponsors a Quilt, Afghan and Knitted or Crocheted Apparel contest.
