The Encampment Lady Tigers split their games over the weekend and with the loss dropped to No. 3 in the 1A Southwest Conference. The Encampment team (1-2 conference, 12-3 overall) now has a good idea of what they will have to work on to get ready for regionals at the end of the month.
In the Rock River game, Encampment dominated the Longhorns, with Alyssa Barkhurst putting up more nearly as many points as the entire Longhorn team. In the 48-27 win, Barkhurst scored 25 points. Her game record is 29, which she scored last year during the state tournament. With a 71.4 percent field goal average, Barkhurst will be a force for her team at regionals and state.
Noelle Peterson hit 62.5 percent of her shots, adding 13 points to the board. Cassidy Little had 6 points, and Paige Powell and Miciah Pantle each added 2 points.
Powell led in rebounds with seven defensive boards. Pantle and Little each had four defensive rebounds. Little also had an offensive rebound.
Konnar Knotwell, who proves to be aggressive at both ends of the court, grabbed two defensive rebounds and two offensive rebounds.
Barkhurst was just as proficient at the free throw line as she was in the paint, with a 71.4 percent average at the line.
"We came out focused and played hard the whole game," Encampment Head Coach Amy Clay said. "We held their leading scorer to 11. She averages 19. Everyone played great help defense."
It was Little Snake River Valley Rattler's (LSRV) (21-, 12-4) 3-pointers that put the Tigers on the losing end of the game Saturday. "(It) was a tough loss," Clay said of the 35-48 game. The Rattlers shot 57 percent from the arc scoring 21 points.
Barkhurst was the leading scorer against LSRV with 11. Peterson followed up with 8 points, while Little had 6. Hailey Barkurst and Powell each added 5 points to the board.
Peterson led the team in rebounds, with three on the offense end and four defense. Little had six defensive rebounds, with Powell having four rebounds. H. Barkurst, Pantle and A. Barkhurst each grabbed three rebounds.
"We have nine practices before our next game. It will give us time to refocus and work on our weaknesses," Clay said.
There are no games planned this weekend for the Encampment Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers will go on the road with games starting at 4 p.m. Feb. 12 and noon on Feb. 13 against Farson/Eden and Cokeville respectively.
