Lady Tigers lose first place by one vote

The loss to St. Stephens knocked the Lady Tigers down a notch on WyoPreps, but only by one vote and it is early in the season.

Despite the loss to St. Stephens, the Tigers had a very good weekend of basketball before winter break, according to head coach Amy Clay.

“I am pleased with the great attitude each of them display,” Clay said.

In the game against Kaycee, Alyssa Barkhurst scored 18 points, Cassidy Little 9 points, Michiah Pantle 8 points, Paige Powell 4 points and Noelle Peterson 3 points. Powell also had 10 rebounds and five assist, while Peterson had six rebounds. The final score was 52-37.

The team as a whole had 30 rebounds and 13 assists.

Against St. Stephens, A. Barkhurst had 16 points, Little had 9, Peterson had 7 points, Paige Powell and Hailey Barkhust had 4 points each. Powell led with 11 rebounds, and H. Barkhurst and Peterson each grabbed nine rebounds.

“We rebounded very well in this game getting 40,” Clay said. They had a season low of shooting with 28 percent. The turnovers got the best of them, Clay said. “It was good to play (St. Stephens). We will focus on getting better in certain areas,” Clay said.

Still she is pleased with the hustle and heart of her team. The final score was 43-55.

In the game against Guernsey/Sunrise, it was Powell who shot well, with 14 points. A. Barkhurst and Little each got 10 points and H. Barkhurst had 8 points. Little and A. Barkhurst also had five steals, while Powell had four. Powell also had seven rebounds.

This team has each other’s back no matter what, Clay said. “We are working hard to get better today than we were yesterday.”

The team had open gym before Christmas and this week are back at practice.

The Tigers start 2016 in Laramie against the Laramie Sophomores. Game time is Jan. 5 at 4 p.m.
