Lady Tigers have high hopes for season

For the first time in years, Encampment Lady Tigers Head Coach Amy Clay will have a deep bench. Seven newcomers are coming into the mix this season and they are not all freshmen, Clay said.

With 14 team members and seeing the hard work the Lady Tigers are already putting into the season, Clay is pretty sure she can go eight or nine deep on the bench with the work she is seeing at practice.

The team will start off against Rock River at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow (HEM) Jr.High/Sr. High gym during the Carbon County Classic. It will be a good test for the Lady Tigers as Rock River is returning with most of the starting core, Clay said. “It will be a good challenge to start off the season,” Clay said.

Encampment does have one advantage – they are already ranked No. 2 before the season begins by WyoPreps, with Cokeville ranking No. 1.

A deep bench will be an advantage for the Tigers, who took third place at state last year.

Clay said the team is working very hard and they are always wanting to do more, which makes her happy as a coach. “They always want to run more and want to put in extra work,” Clay said.

That might be because they also want to bring home the first place trophy from state this season.

Clay said with having a Junior Varsity team this year, everyone will have a chance at getting some playing time.

The girls will go up against Hayden, Colo., at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Encampment K-12 main gym. The team will end the day at 4:30 against HEM in the auxiliary gym in Encampment.
