The Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) will host the Festival of Trees Gala and Auction on Dec. 4 at the Platte Valley Community Center (PVCC) for its 13th year. Individuals, organizations and businesses donate decorated trees and wreaths, gift baskets, centerpieces, holiday décor and gifts for auction.
"It started with trees but now we get a little mix of everything," said Stacy Crimmins, chief executive officer of the Chamber. The Festival of Trees started at the Saratoga Resort and Spa, but has since moved to the PVCC. "The Gala is a really fun night because Teense Willford has been our emcee and auctioneer since the beginning."
Crimmins added Jimmy Hinkle will be up with Willford providing entertainment and auctioning off about 40 items in a live auction. "We're not serious about anything really." According to Crimmins, the gala is a family friendly event that also serves as a great place for a date night. Proceeds of the evening are to benefit the Chamber and the schools' music program, and they hope to raise about $9,000, said Crimmins.
The donated items will be on display beginning Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m., when the public is invited to see the items. as well as cast their votes for the People's Choice item on Thursday and Friday. The donor of the People's Choice item will receive a $50 gift certificate. "Families and groups of friends love to see the creative and unique trees. I am proud of the creativity and generosity shown at this event. Stopping in on Thursday or Friday has become a Christmas tradition in itself. The Festival often showcases the wonderful gift items that can be purchased right here in the Valley," Crimmins said.
The Chamber will take entries until Dec. 2, and items should be ready and delivered by 3 p.m. on Dec. 3. The public can view the trees on Dec. 3 from 3 - 5 p.m. and Dec. 4, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. while enjoying hot cider and cookies. Entry forms are available by calling the Chamber at 326-8855.
