The Saratoga Community Garden members are eating their vegetables, Steve Deorio said before the Saratoga Town Council on Sept. 15.

However, they have just begun their harvest, and Deorio said that the Community Garden Board has been discussing possible donations to the Platte Valley Food Bank. So far, the community garden has yielded 22 pounds of potatoes. The board is in the process of discussing different fundraisers to take place throughout the winter, Deorio said, and they will begin work on the greenhouse soon.

Mayor Ed Glode reported that a mule deer had been “harpooned” in a local driveway. According to police chief Tom Knickerbocker, non-firearm shooting is legal in town limits as long as the projectile does not leave the property the shooter owns or has permission to shoot upon. However, Glode said that they would consult ordinances in Rawlins for such activities, as several years ago they had a similar incident.

Glode also mentioned that he had talked to the president of the Lion’s Club about the need for more garbage receptacles about town and at the in-progress Good Times Park. Further, Glode reported that the ground-penetrating radar study, necessary for moving forward with the river project, will be completed by the University of Wyoming likely during the last week of October.

On behalf of the planning commission, councilperson Will Faust reported that the fencing ordinance is in the works, as well as ordinances for home occupations and retail occupation. Karl Smith, planning commission member, added that the commission needed approval to hire Susan Lane, currently an Engineering Associates employee, as a temporary secretary. The council moved to hire her for three months.
