Fire watch Wednesday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Cheyenne issued a Fire Weather Watch for Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. due to wind gusts of 30-35 miles per hour and dry conditions. According to an email from Gerry Claycomb at NWS Cheyenne, the conditions will continue late into the week “on a daily basis as the low pressure system that is causing the winds is slow to move through Montana.”

This will “create favorable conditions for rapid fire growth if one were to start,” said Chris Hammer, meteorologist at NWS Cheyenne. “Outdoor burning would definitely not be recommended on Wednesday.

“The dry and windy conditions may continue on past Wednesday, but for now the watch is only on Wednesday,” Hammer continued.

Fuels are reportedly ready to burn in these conditions, the email said. The watch includes southeast Carbon County between the Snowy and Sierra Madre ranges, as well as southwest Carbon County, Converse/Niobrara Counties and North Laramie Range.
