Marijuana, motor boat grant topics

Fridays with the Mayor

Mayor Ed Glode does not believe the resolution presented by the Saratoga Police Department on the legalization of marijuana will come up again after the Aug. 18 Saratoga Town Council meeting. Glode agreed with the sentiments councilperson Will Faust made about whether legalization of marijuana is currently a town issue. “It’s a federal issue. I don’t even know why they’re debating it at the state level,” Glode said.

“Like Judy said, it does kind of take a side instead of being neutral about the issue,” Glode said.

Glode doubts that another version of the resolution will be presented. “So, what’s the other side of the deal? Do we sign another resolution where we want to know the positive aspects of marijuana at the same time? It’s obviously only supporting the negative side.”

Glode feels that the motor boat grant will save efforts on tree watering in the town, which currently relies on labor and transportation fees. “If we had a good well out there (Saratoga Lake Campground), it would save us so much time,” Glode says. The grant would fund improvements to the grounds as well as add water hook-ups for camp sites. According to Glode, big RV campers come into the campground and block other spaces in order to reach one of few hook-ups. With improvements to the grounds, they would be able to potentially up the fee for campsites and have more available sites with hook-ups. According to Glode, the project will pay for itself quickly, considering the campground has taken in $5,000 this year.
