CCVC grant sessions reduced

The Carbon County Visitors’ Council (CCVC) has reduced the number of grant sessions from four to three beginning this September. Grant sessions will take place in September, January and May going forward.

“We used to do quarterly—January, April, July, and October,” Leslie Jefferson, Executive Director of Carbon County Visitors’ Council said. “We also linked in the process of when you can request funds. It used to be 120 days and now it’s 180 days.”

Jefferson explained that this process reduces the workload and improves operations for CCVC as well as the organizations applying for grants. According to Jefferson, the increased flow of applications for the month of April due to summer events caused some applications to be missed.

The grants, which are given to non-profits and government entities, include up to $4,000 for general advertising. “I really think that it enables our organizations to better plan and get—especially in print advertising—better discounts by ordering earlier,” Jefferson said. “More bang for their buck.”

Jefferson added that the grant forms have been updated, and the new applications are presently available online.

“May and early June events should probably apply in our January session,” Jefferson said, adding that CCVC would like to see all events through June during the January session. According to Jefferson, July events would have to seek special permissions to apply early should they choose the January session. Additionally, Jefferson said that CCVC has added a sponsorship for conferences and conventions.

“The biggest change right now is that we were normally taking them (grant applications) in October … but now it’s Sept. 1,” Jefferson said.

According to Jefferson, $125,000 was awarded in grants this fiscal year.
