3 fires snuffed out

Three simultaneous lightning strikes caused three wildland fires Saturday—one at Brush Creek, another at the One Bar Eleven Ranch and the last off of Carbon County Road 660.

“We had to divide and conquer here,” Homer Beach, Ryan Park Volunteer Fire Chief said. “Ryan Park took the Brush Creek one, Saratoga took One Bar Eleven and I think some Saratoga people and Encampment took the one off of County Road 660.”

Several days before on Aug. 12, One Bar Eleven experienced another fire when a hay baler caught fire and then the field caught on fire, which Ryan Park, Saratoga and Encampment Volunteer Fire Departments helped to fight. “We’ve been busy on those type of things for the last week or so,” Beach said.

According to Beach, it took between three and four hours to get everything put out with all three departments working. There was no serious damage from the weekend fires, Beach said.

“We’re actually starting to get into our wildland season, even though we’ve had some rain,” Beach said. “Lightning strikes and things like this could be a problem.”

Beach said that high winds and dry grass lead to fire bans and red flag warnings.
