Thomas Paul McGuire

Thomas Paul McGuire, 81, of Saratoga Wyo., passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015 at the University of Colorado Hospital. He was born on May 1, 1934, in St. Paul, Minn. to Paul and Isabelle McGuire.

A rosary was held on Friday, July 17 at 7 p.m. and the service was held on the following Saturday at 11 a.m. Father Joey Buencamino officiated. Interment followed at the Saratoga Cemetery.

Pallbearers at the service included Tommy McGuire, Danny McGuire, Bob McGuire, John Lusch and Steve Kiehm. Honorary pallbearers included Mike McGuire, Vern Holloway, Jim McMann, Jeffrey Pittenger, Jody Pittenger and Rod Johnson.

Tom was the oldest son of eight children in his family.

He attended school for a few years before he left to work for East Side Ford as an apprentice mechanic in St. Paul, Minn.

In February 1953, Tom married Jean Kudrle, of St. Paul, and moved to Casper, Wyo. with their first son, Tommy, for work. Tom worked multiple jobs in his lifetime. While in Casper, he worked for Schlumberger as a wire line operator. He then moved to Riverton, Wyo. and worked for Halliburton before transferring to Rock Springs, Wyo. where he stayed and raised his children.

While in Rock Springs, he bought a gas station in 1957 and ran it for a couple of years before starting a hot shot business that he ran for four years. Tom also worked as a crusher supervisor. He helped build the tunnels by Green River and also worked on the Interstate between Rock Springs and Rawlins. Tom worked for Allied Chemical from 1968 to 1971 and then started a refrigerator repair business. Tom started working for himself in dirt contracting with McGuire Construction in 1975.

In 1984, Tom moved to Saratoga and lived there ever since. In 1994, he married Connie Pittenger at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Tom started and ran Carbon County Concrete, what was a well-known business in town, for multiple years with the help of his sons before retiring in 2007.

In his earlier years, Tom raced stock cars for a doctor. He held a track speed record in St. Cloud, Wisconsin for more than 20 years. More recently in his life Tom was a pilot and kept his plane in a hangar in Saratoga. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion Post #54 and a Lions Club member.

Tom is survived by his wife Connie McGuire, brother Mike McGuire, sons Tommy, Danny and Bob McGuire, daughters Cindy Santos, Sandy Christensen and Susan McGuire, stepsons Jeffrey and Jody Pittenger, multiple grandchildren and some great-grandchildren.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Isabelle McGuire, brothers Eugene and Jerry, sisters Mary, Roxy, Rita and Pat, and sons Paul and Jimmy.

There is a living legacy that Tom left behind. He has donated skin to Donor Alliance of Denver, Colo. which will help about 40 people.
