What's up with WhatFest?

WhatFest is back for 2015 on July 24 and 25. Accommodations are first come first serve and will be provided at Riverside Garage, where they can fit about 150-160 tents for the cost of a small donation to Riverside Garage. Lazy Acres is also first come first serve, costing $10.50 per night, per person. Although camping was previously provided at the Lions Club grounds, that will no longer be available in 2015 because it had not been utilized in the past, according to Margaret Weber, owner of the Bear Trap.

Weber is confident that there will be enough camping for all patrons, which Weber expects to be around 1,500 people from past indicators. Signs will indicate where people are able to stay or not stay, considering that last year, some residents had issues with campers sleeping in their cars on certain streets.

Each band will have one slot to play, and slots are listed at whatfest.com. “There are three stages. We have an inside stage which is more of an intimate stage. It’s also for people that it’s their first year playing the event,” Weber said. The remaining stages are outside. Construction of the stages began on July 20 and 21. Hog Wild Barbecue and Alibi are providing food for the event as well as a shaved ice vendor. The tattoo artist that was present last year will be back this year.

All backpacks and bags will be checked at the venue for outside alcohol but guests 21 and over will be able to purchase alcohol. Leave dogs at home.

This is Whatfest’s 13th year. “I think that it brings every business in this area extra revenue,” Weber said. “Which, as slow as winters are, it’s something that’s needed.”
