Serving the Platte Valley since 1888

I see London, I see France

Games provide laughter and socialization during the week. On Sunday afternoon, four residents played Dominoes with Pat Rust winning. On Tuesday morning, four residents played Yahtzee with Katherine Beckham winning. On Wednesday and Friday afternoons, residents played Bingo. Katherine Beckham, Pat Sims and Marjery McAulay won Four Corners. Marie Huntley and Elaine Burge won Blackout. Our volunteers were Lila Worden, Dawna Erickson, Gloria Rakness, Elder Palmer and Elder Bingham. On Saturday afternoon, residents played Blackjack.

Movies provided entertainment for residents throughout the week. In the evening, residents may watch the commercial-free movie channel. On Tuesday afternoon, residents watched the movie, The Wings of Eagles, and had popcorn.

On Sunday afternoon, Pastor Gene Smith of the Platte Valley Christian Center led church. Doris Davis played traditional religious music on the keyboard.

On Monday afternoon, seven residents attended Resident/Food Council under the able leadership of President Pat Rust, discussing concerns about living at the facility.

On Wednesday morning, four residents had their hair done and seven residents had their finger nails done by Kathy McMorrow, Georgia Schroer and Janice Kerpan.

On Thursday at supper, we had our annual summer barbecue. Twenty family members and guests joined us for this events. Teense Willford sang and played music on his guitar. He was joined by Chris on the violin and Ray on the guitar. Everyone enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni salad, potato salad and great desserts including watermelon, brownies, carrot cake and red velvet cake.

On Friday, four residents went to the Saratoga Senior Center for Lunch Out, having roast beef and birthday cake.

We want to thank the Platte Valley Christian Center for loaning us the tables and chairs for our barbecue on Thursday.

On July 23, I will be leaving for a 10-day vacation. I will be e-mailing this column from London and Paris, telling everyone what I have seen on my tour led by a Rhodes Scholar.
