Encampment Spanish teacher, Mr. Ricks, will be hosting a one-time screening of The Cokeville Miracle on Tuesday, July 14th at 7:30 p.m. at the Platte Valley Community Center.
This film is based on actual events that took place in 1986. A madman and his wife took an elementary school in Cokeville, Wyo., hostage in hopes of gaining ransom money. They herded all of the students and staff into one classroom and held them there with guns and a bomb for several hours. Miraculously, when they detonated the bomb, the man and his wife were the only ones killed. The children later revealed there were angels protecting them that day. The film is rated PG-13 for thematic elements including violence and peril.
The profits from the one-time screening will help Mr. Ricks and several of his students this coming August as they travel to Ecuador to volunteer in orphanages.
Tickets can be purchased from the Platte Valley Community Center ($7 in advance, $9 at the door): http://www.pvcenter.org/events.html or 307-326-7822.
