Ellen Astrid (Frederiksen) Ewing was born April 23, 1932 at the family home outside of Sundance, Wyo., near Horton, Wyo., to Julius and Martha (Petersen) Frederiksen and passed into the hands of her loving husband and our Lord Jesus Christ on April 18, 2015 at her home.
Ellen married the love of her life Dorman James Ewing on May 21, 1949. They were blessed to spend 65 years together before his passing in 2014. Ellen was the loving mother of three children - Billy and Linda (Chuck) Larsen, of Saratoga, and Sharon (John) Anderson, of Encampment. Besides her children, Ellen was blessed to share her life with 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Ellen attended country school at Horton and high school in Newcastle, Wyo., and Sundance. Ellen was the drum majorette for her high school band.
Ellen was quite talented - she loved playing her piano and organ. She could listen to a song and then sit down and play it. She did take lessons as an adult so she could learn to read music. In her younger years she was quite the baton twirler. She tried to teach her daughters how to twirl a baton and how to play the piano to no avail - neither one had any interest or talent. When her daughters were young, Ellen enjoyed making a lot of their clothes - especially their Easter dresses. Even though they weren't twins she often made them matching dresses. Ellen also enjoyed crocheting and needle work. She made a quilt several years ago that she was quite proud of.
Ellen was a 50-year member of Beta Sigma Phi and was instrumental in getting the chapters in the Valley started. She was also a long-time member of the Rebekah's.
Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Dorman; her parents; two sisters, Irene and Anna; and one brother, Kenneth. Besides her children and grandchildren, she is survived by one sister, Eda and her husband, Donald Gose of Upton, Wyo .; one brother, Karl and his wife, Joan Frederiksen of Casper, Wyo .; numerous nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Gail Fall, of Belle Fourche, S.D.
A memorial service will be held at the Valley Chapel at the Saratoga Cemetery on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. A lunch hosted by her family will be served immediately following the service in the Chapel.
