Rowdy Alameda was one of 64 spellers to compete in the State Bee on March 21 and one of 29 to pass the written test, which allowed him to compete in the oral competition in Rock Springs.
JoJo Widi, of Cheyenne, went on to win the spelling bee. Rowdy made it through three rounds according to his mother, KayCee.
Rowdy was the only Saratoga Elementary School student to participate in the spelling bee and the only fourth grade student to make it into the oral rounds at state.
The Wyoming State Spelling Bee was sponsored by the Wyoming Community Foundation’s Rock Springs Local board and hosted by Western Wyoming Community College.
